Photo of Calamagrostis x acutiflora 'Karl Förster' Calamagrostis x acutiflora 'Karl Förster' - Feather Reed Grass
Justifiably considered one of the most outstanding ornamental Grasses for the garden, Feather Reed Grass has shiny leaves that grow in an upright, arching clump 18-24 inches tall. In early summer 4-6-foot flowering stalks with subtly colored plumes of light purple emerge from the tight clumps, later changing to buff in the late summer garden. 'Karl Förster', commemorating the legendary German plantsman, creates a wonderful vertical accent that sways gently even in the slightest whisper of air. Furthermore, being sterile, it does not create a weed problem. Feather Reed Grass grows well in moist, rich soil in full sun. Z. 5-9
