Ginkgo biloba 'Chi Chi' - Dwarf Ginkgo
An ancient race of trees, closely allied to conifers, Ginkgoes exhibit a curious fanshaped leaf split in the center that elicited a famous celebratory poem from the German author Goethe shortly after he acquired a Ginkgo for his garden in Weimar. 'Chi Chi' is a densely branched rounded form that reaches only about 8 feet in height, and like most Ginkgoes, displays excellent butter-yellow fall color. After about ten years, the bark of 'Chi Chi' is reported to develop candle-like knobs, which makes it appealing to bonsai aficionados with an eye for the unusual. Ginkgoes are heat and drought tolerant once established. Z. 4-8(9)
