Current Genus: Cotinus
Cotinus 'Grace' - Hybrid Smoke Tree
We're thrilled to offer this incredible hybrid of the American and European Smoke Trees. The foliage is remarkable, emerging a sort of smoky bronze-pink, maturing to blue-green, and turning red-purple in fall. New leaves are produced much of the season, so it's a fascinating tableau vivant. The flowers (usually of secondary interest on Cotinus) are borne in wonderfully massive panicles of pink over a foot long in June. Z. 5-8
Cotinus coggygria 'Golden Spirit' - Golden Smoke Tree
This selection from Holland has caused a lot of excitement in Europe, and now we have a chance to see what all the fuss is about. Leaves emerge golden and hold this yellow or chartreuse color until midsummer, even in full sun, though just a bit of afternoon shade will improve color retention. Fall brings a kaleidoscope of red, orange, and yellow. PP 13082. Z. 5-8
