Current Genus: Corylopsis
Corylopsis pauciflora - Buttercup Winterhazel
Small cup-shaped flowers of primrose yellow appear in short racemes of 1-3 flowers, but they are produced in such great quantities that its floral display rivals those of the other kinds. This Corylopsis remains a small shrub for many years, broader than tall, and its slender branches and delicate flowers suggest placement in an intimate setting where its refined beauty can best be appreciated. Z. 6-8
Corylopsis spicata 'Gold Spring' ('Aurea') - Golden Winterhazel
The first Corylopsis with golden leaves! 'Gold Spring' leafs out bright lemon yellow and subsequently turns first to chartreuse and then to light green. Growth is rather lax, and we expect it to mature at about 6 feet. Best planted in a bit of shade to enhance the leaf color. Of course, even before the leaves emerge, you'll be charmed by chains of fragrant yellow flowers on 1 to 2-inch-long racemes, as with regular C. spicata. Z. 6-8
