Current Genus: Lycoris
Lycoris chinensis - Surprise Lily
Stunning golden yellow Lily-like flowers open in July and August on stems up to 2 feet in height. Strap-like leaves appear the following spring. Lycoris are long-lived, hardy members of the Amaryllis family whose flowers appear on naked stems in late summer. They require deep, fertile, well-drained soil in light shade and resent disturbance. Plant them about 5 inches deep with as little root disturbance as possible, and mulch well in winter in the colder end of their range. Z. (5)6-10
Lycoris sprengeri - Surprise Lily
Striking rosy-pink flowers with lighter edges and shocking electric blue tips in August and September. L. sprengeri is the smallest Lycoris species we offer, perhaps half the size of the others, ideal for interplanting among Hostas or Epimediums, yet its astonishing color makes quite an impact. Leaves appear in spring. Z. (5)6-10
