Current Genus: Cephalotaxus
Cephalotaxus harringtonia 'Duke Gardens' - Japanese Plum Yew
A lush, tropical-looking evergreen for moist but well-drained soil, usually in shade, although this selection from North Carolina seems to hold its lustrous deep green color even in full sun. It may eventually reach 4-5 feet tall while spreading 3-4 feet, but very slowly. It has upswept arching branches and spreads in an oval to rounded shape. 2008 PHS Gold Medal Plant Award winner. Z. (5)6-9
Cephalotaxus harringtonia 'Korean Gold' - Golden Plum Yew
This plant took our breath away when we first came across it a few years ago. The tips are golden yellow to almost white, and its columnar growth habit makes it a perfect focal point for a garden in dappled light or part shade. May reach 8-10 feet high and half as wide. Tips may burn in regions with torrid summers. Z. 6-8
Especially lovely plants available this fall.
